Mercedez Rex Silk Bandana - Tide Pool

Tide Pool began as a strip of newsprint dragged across the edge of my marbling tray — a byproduct of an experiment, not an intentional print. I’ve learned to save all my scraps because sometime there’s gold hiding in them. This one didn't jump out at me initially and I am awestruck by how these compositions can hide in plain sight, unnoticed until I “Look Closer”.

Compositionally, Tide Pool  is a departure from previous scarves in the seasonal series. Large forms in bold colors dominate the silk canvas, as opposed to the smaller pattern and fine grained strata in much of my earlier work. Primary adjacent colors of Mustard, Aqua and Red dominate with Pink and Indigo playing a supporting role. A swoosh of textured Olive Gray gives the design a little breathing room. The deep Forest Green squiggle, almost invisible in the original print, steals the show at this scale. The red dot inside the organic Aqua blob and the Green dots inside the Black and Red forms hint at a yin-yang vibe so perfectly I could cry.  Remember, these are forms that emerged almost on their own as I worked to throw the paint spontaneously and without conscious intention in the experiment.

Care Instructions:

100% Silk. Hand wash with mild detergent. Hang to dry. Iron low.
